About the PULSE Damage Prevention Specialist Development Program

PULSE Damage Prevention Specialist Learners may earn a PULSE Certificate and PULSE Credly digital badge. To qualify for a course certificate or digital badge, a learner must successfully complete a rigorous training program that involves understanding of the One Call system, basic safety, locating theory, locating equipment use and maintenance, locating and marking policies and procedures, utility plant basics, identification of and use of utility access points for the underground locating and utility industries.

In order to earn a PULSE Damage Prevention Specialist certification and digital badge, learners must:

  • Complete 17 courses in the areas of The One Call system, Basic safety, Locating theory, Locating equipment use and maintenance, Locating and marking procedures, Utility installation, Telephone plant basics, Electric plant basics, and Gas plant basics, and the identification of and use of utility access points for the purpose of locating underground utilities to ensure their protection.
  • Pass 27 quizzes at an 80% proficiency level in the areas of The One Call system, Basic safety, Locating theory, Locating equipment use and maintenance, Locating and marking procedures, Utility installation, Telephone, Electric, and Gas plant basics, and the identification of and use of utility access points for the purpose of locating underground utilities.
  • Pass a final written certification at a 75% proficiency level in the areas of The One Call system, Basic safety, Locating theory, Locating equipment use and maintenance, Locating and marking procedures, Utility installation, Telephone, Electric, and Gas plant basics, and the identification of and use of utility access points for the purpose of locating underground utilities.
